2023 Alberta Photography Workshop

POSTPONED UNTIL A LATER DATE DUE TO A SCHEDULING CONFLICT THAT AROSE WITH ANOTHER SHOOT.

Join me as we explore three National Parks in the Canadian Rockies: Banff, Yoho, and Jasper.

Whether you’re coming as beginner or advanced photographer (or just coming for the adventures), you’ll experience an unforgettable journey with a slammed itinerary. This trip will take you to some of the most beautiful places in the world - places I’ve been several times now but can’t stop returning to. And while we’re there, I’ll show you how I’ve come to capture this beautiful place.

ITINERARY

This is the plan, but plans can change. Weather and conditions will be the biggest factor. Should anything complicate these plans, alternate plans will be made that will be just as epic.

Pre-Trip in April, 2023

Before we even arrive in Alberta, we will group up on a video call to sync up travel arrangements and discuss what to bring with you.

Day 1: Tuesday, June 20th

We will meet in the afternoon and head west towards Banff. We’ll arrive at our hotel sometime in the evening, and grab dinner together.

Day 2: Wednesday, June 21st

Big day. We’ll leave the hotel in the middle of the night (around 230am) to head to Lake Moraine for sunrise. After sunrise, we’ll visit Lake Louise and then head back to Banff for breakfast at the Fairmont in the Vermillion Room. We’ll explore The Fairmont, then return to our hotel to rest for a bit. Later that afternoon, we’ll spend an hour together looking at our photos during our Lightroom Editing Workshop. We’ll then head into the Banff region, and end the day by riding up the Banff Gondola for sunset.

Day 3: Thursday, June 22nd

We’ll leave the hotel very early in the morning (around 4am) and head to Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park. After the sunrise, we’ll head north on the Icefields Parkway and spend the entire day stopping at some of the most insane and epic places you’ll ever see in your life. We’ll do some hiking as well. We’ll arrive in Jasper in the evening and grab dinner together before getting some much-needed rest.

Day 4: Friday, June 23rd

We’ll sleep-in today, and head out around 530am to Pyramid Lake. After shooting the sunrise, we’ll head back into the town of Jasper for a slow morning, and another Lightroom Editing Workshop. We’ll then spend the day doing some incredible hikes, including visiting the Edith Cavell Glacier up close. The most incredible part of our entire trip will be arriving at Maligne Lake in the late afternoon and taking a two-hour cruise to Spirit Island.

Day 5: Saturday, June 24th

We’ll have a slower morning and leave Jasper sometime after breakfast to return to the Icefields Parkway. We’ll stop at some new places, and some places we visited a few days before. Lighting and conditions will create a very different experience, even in the same place. We’ll spend the day working our way back to Banff, stopping once again at Lake Louise and Moraine. We’ll conclude our day with dinner in Banff, and a night on the town.

Day 6 - 7: Sunday, June 25th and into Monday, June 26th

We’ll head out early once more (around 5am) and head to sunrise at Two Jack Lake, then head to Lake Minnewanka. After shooting in the morning, we’ll grab breakfast and begin our journey back to YYC in the mid-afternoon. When you make your travel arrangements, you may decide to head out Sunday after 5pm, or sometime Monday. This will be coordinated when we make our group plans.

FAQ’s

  • You’ll need to get yourself to YYC from wherever you are located. But we’ll pick you up and drop you off at the airport.

You’ll also need to cover your meals and anything else you may want to buy while we’re there. We’ll stock quick breakfast items in the car for the days we don’t get it at the hotel. We’ll try to stock some lunches, too. But plan on anywhere between $30-50 CAD/day for meals. Remember, the exchange rate will affect this, so estimate via a quick Google search.

In our pre-planning video call, I’ll talk through specific plans regarding meals and what you’ll need to plan for.

  • If you have a major carrier, you can expect to have service. I recommend talking to your provider and seeing what international fees you can expect. I personally have AT&T, and I use their Passport Plan which is only $10/day to have the same unlimited data I have here in the USA.

You will not likely have any service along the Icefield Parkway, or in various areas we may be in.

  • Any level or no level is fine! I’ll be teaching my approach to shooting and editing along the way, and I teach to all levels. Even if you’re just there with your iPhone, I’ll help you grab great photos along the way.

  • I’ll be working with Sony Alpha to outfit everyone that needs it with a kit for the week. Additionally, I’ll have an assortment of my personal gear that you’re welcome to get your hands on.

  • To reserve your spot, you’ll need to pay $500. Once you’re reserved, you’ll need to pay the balance by April 30th. If you need a payment plan before then, I’m happy to set that up for you.

  • This is a very limited workshop, the first of its kind! I am limiting this to only six spots. You’ll be traveling with up to five others.

Next Steps

If you’re interested in going, fill out the form below. Ask any questions! Some key dates to keep in mind.
